The Good News Comes from... the Royals????
So this week, the good news comes not from the Chiefs camp, but the other half of the Truman Sports Complex. That's right, after our Chiefs got summarily embarassed in every way possible on national television this week, our Boys in Blue have saved us.
"But we just lost our 104th game last night?" you ask? True. But today, we signed Alex Gordon, our first round draft pick, and second pick overall. After long, protracted discussions that seemed to be going nowhere, we finally got him to autograph the papers.
I was seriously in doubt as to whether he'd sign with us. He could have held out and re-entered the draft next year. We had refused to budge from 3.8 million, and I thought we had wasted a pick. But lo and behold, somehow we moved just a little bit up, and he came a long ways down.
His signing gets me excited. I'm curious to see what he can do. Everyone said he was the most major-league ready of all the first rounders available, and some people are saying he'll shoot through the minors in only one year. If he lives up to the hype, that'd be awesome. Granted, one piece to the puzzle won't save our ship full-o-holes, but it's a little sliver of shiny light in a bleak, dark and storm-ridden season (let's face it - decade and a half) of Royals baseball.
Here's to Billy Butler and Alex Gordon in 2007!
